Boswell to Latham Buddy Paul Ryan: The Drought Isn't A Quiz Game

Today, Leonard Boswell called out presumptive Republican Vice Presidential Nominee Paul Ryan for his callous dismissal of a question on the drought in Iowa. When asked about drought conditions, Ryan said "we can play stump the VP later." The current drought is the worst in Iowa in over 60 years. Ryan joined Boswell's opponent, arch-conservative Congressman Tom Latham in voting to adjourn and campaign rather than deal with drought relief or a fam bill.

"Refusing to talk about agriculture in Iowa is like refusing to talk about automotive manufacturing in Michigan, mining in West Virginia, or fishing in Maine," said Boswell. "It shows me how extremely out of touch Congressman Latham and the Romney-Ryan ticket are with Iowa values."

Ryan and Latham have voted with each other nearly 9 times out of 10 since 2007. Latham joined Ryan in 2011 and 2012 in voting for the radical Ryan Budget which, if implemented, would end Medicare as we know it, turning it into a voucher system that would cost seniors thousands in out of pocket medical expenses. Now, it appears that Ryan has developed Latham's indifference to the plight of farmers during this drought.

"Whether its refusing to tackle drought issues or moving to end Medicare and give a massive tax cut to millionaires, Tom Latham and Paul Ryan are just plain wrong for Iowa," said Boswell. "We need leadership that understands the issues facing the middle class, not one that won't answer questions."
